Before Your Visit

What to Bring to Your Eye Exam

Here is what to bring to your eye exam, and a few simple steps to take beforehand. A little preparation helps you get the most out of your visit.

What to Bring: The Basics for Every Patient

The basics for any eye exam at Hindsight Eye Care.

  • Your current glasses

Bring every pair you wear, including reading glasses and prescription sunglasses.

  • Your insurance information

Your vision plan card, plus your medical insurance card and a photo ID.

  • A list of your medications

Include eye drops, vitamins and supplements. Some medicines affect your eyes.

  • Your questions

Write them down beforehand so nothing gets forgotten in the exam chair.

Workstation and Lifestyle Details

If you sit at a desk, work in special conditions or have strong symptoms, a few details help Dr. Russell tailor your prescription.

  • Your computer screen distance

Thinking about computer glasses? Measure the distance from your eyes to your monitor, in inches or centimeters.

  • A symptom log

Note any vision problems, such as dry eyes, double vision, flashes of light or poor night vision, with when they happen and how often.

Extra Items for Contact Lens Wearers

Wear contacts? Bring a little more than the basics.

  • Your full lens details

The box or the blister pack foil showing your contact lens brand, power and base curve (BC).

  • A spare lens case and solution

You may be asked to take your lenses out during the exam, so bring a clean case and a travel bottle of solution.

  • Your backup glasses

Always bring your backup pair of glasses to a contact lens exam.

Before You Leave Home

What to Bring and Keep in Mind Before Your Eye Exam

  1. 01

    Go easy on the caffeine

Skip coffee, energy drinks and other strong caffeine right before your appointment. Caffeine may briefly raise your eye pressure or blood pressure and affect test results.

  2. 02

Fill in your patient form at home

Download our patient form, complete it before you come in, and bring it with you. It saves time at check-in.

  3. 03

Plan your ride if your eyes are dilated

Dilating drops can leave your vision blurry and light-sensitive for a few hours. Bring sunglasses, and a driver if you prefer.
